Unisured Drivers - Numbers Rise

It�s quite alarming to think of it but the fact is 1.4 million uninsured drivers are roaming our streets. BIBA (the British Insurance Brokers Association) claim that rises in the cost of vehicle fuel and increased costs of vehicle tax are partly to blame for so many uninsured drivers driving around the streets of Britain.

The startling reality for those legitimate drivers on the road is that they have contributed on average about thirty pounds every year toward the costs these illegal uninsured drivers create by causing accidents and the like. Believe it or not but the reaction of many of these uninsured drivers is that they think the fines and punishments dished out to them by the authorities is by far cheaper and a better risk so they continue to flaunt the law in our faces. I think we would all agree that the position needs to be reviewed to increase punishments for offenders, uninsured drivers and to review discretion for legitimate mistakes.

One of the biggest things to worry about are the startling rises in the amount of hit and run incidents that are recorded year and year. Many on these incidents might easily be the result of uninsured driver failing to stop because they are fully aware of the implications of being caught without car insurance cover.
