The History of Tescos

At the time of print in January 2007 the Tesco supermarket chain is now the largest in Britain. It was founded by Jack Cohen back in 1919 after Cohen returned from the 1st world war.

Cohen invested his war reward money in the business and so a legacy was born. The name Tescos however didn�t come for a number of years later. The name was created in 1924 when Cohen and business partner T E Stockwell combined parts of their names to create Tesco.

The first brand to hit the shelves was Tesco Tea albiet the shelves were not in a shop, the first retail shop didn�t arrive until 1929. In the 1930�s Cohen purchased some land in North London to build Tesco head office and main distribution warehouse.

From these mere beginnings Tesco has gone from strength to strength selling more and more in the range of goods. Nowadays you can even get Tesco car insurance cover, mobile phones, car petrol and a complete range of electrical goods.

Stores are now found throughout the UK and even abroad providing groceries for your fridge and petrol for your car. The story of Tesco is truly a rags to incredible riches true story.
