Losing Your Driving Licence

Motorists can face stiff penalties if they break the law of the highways and ultimately they can lose their driving licence if certain conditions are met are they are ordered to by a court judge. There are a number of ways in which losing your driving licence can become a reality.

For experienced drivers with years of driving experience one of the most popular causes of licence loss occurs when they accumulate points on their driving licence that then exceed the maximum limit which currently stands at 12 points.

One of the biggest reasons for drivers getting more points on their licence over the past decade has been the intervention of the highway speed cameras that now catch out thousands of motorists every year. The other main reason for losing a driving licence could come from the dreaded court appearance following a serious driving offence when a judge may then revoke your driving licence for a set period of time. You will also have to pay-out a hefty fine on top of the driving ban and dont forget the increased motor insurance premium you will have to pay next time your insurance is due.

For new and inexperienced drivers the introduction of the New Drivers Act places tough restrictions and conditions on new motorists. If a new driver accumulates six or more penalty points within the first two years of passing their driving test they will automatically have their driving licence revoked. This then means they will have to then re-apply for a provisional licence and yes it all starts over again with them having to re-take their driving test. And this means both the theory and the practical test. In some cases others might also have to take the extended test which involves more specialist situations such as motorway driving.

If you want to avoid losing your driving licence then make sure you stay observant and more importantly stay within the law.
