Insurance Advertising Gets Tougher

The FSA (Financial Services Authority) has started to probe into and clamp down on what it believes to be misleading advertising within the insurance industry. It claims in a recent study involving over 50 insurance companies that many were misleading potential clients by stating they would save money when they actually had nothing to substantiate any such claims.

They state that insurance companies are freely advertising themselves as gateways to saving money but they do not support the claims by explaining why and how they can save the insurance customer money. The FSA is determined to clamp down on what it believes to be misleading advertising that lacks guidance for the customer. The Association of British Insurers is also keen to support any move to tidy up the industry and ensure the customer gets exactly what is being promoted.

In the past 3 years the FSA has actively taken action against a number of insurance companies it believes were not conducting themselves correctly and a total amount of one and half million pounds has to date been taken back in fines. This is particularly bad news for creative advertisers who often rely on such catchphrases to get their snazzy messages across to the punters on the street.
