Over Twenty Four Young Drivers Killed Everyday

Startling figures reveal that on average twenty four young drivers and inexperienced drivers are killed on the roads of Britain every single day prompting a road safety charity to take action.

The UK’s young drivers do have to take action themselves in contributing toward helping to save lives. Brake, the road safety organisation carried out a survey of people between fifteen and twenty five to try and assess the mentality of young driver and potential young driver. The survey revealed some quite disturbing facts such as:

• A third admitted to have driven without a licence
• One in fourteen has driven a stolen vehicle
• One in five has travelled as a passenger with a young driver they knew had no licence or was driving a motor vehicle that was stolen
• Two in five don’t put a seat belt on when travelling in the back of a car
• One in three of the youngsters admitted to being in a motor car with a young driver ho was intoxicated or high on drugs
• Almost fifty percent admitted to speeding at rates of over 10 mph over the stated limit, the majority being male young drivers
• One in five young drivers admitted to overtaking other vehicles when they had no comprehension of what was coming the other way
• A quarter of young drivers have travelled at more than 70 mph on country roads, again the majority being male young drivers

All these figures are worrying not only to the organisation Brake who are concerned about the young drivers but also the car insurance companies who pickup the financial bills.
