Electronic Certificates of Insurance

The Department of Transport is finally succumbing to the 21st century with the announcement they are looking into whether it is possible to issue electronic certificates of insurance. In light of this a consultation paper has been released to gain information about the possible use of electronic certificates of insurance in replacement for the traditional paper versions that we are all so used to.

BIBA the British Insurance Brokers Association was one of the first motoring and insurance organisations to welcome the move as they in particular held a lobby to see electronic certificates of insurance being introduced. If they are introduced this will bring every closer the reality that all our car insurance documentation will be held electronically on super servers in years to come.

There is also the element of cost because the introduction of such technology and efficiency will also mean the argument being valid for cheaper motor insurance premiums.
