Congestion Charges Set To Spread

Despite certain individuals stating the spread of congestion charges would lead to disruption and anger amongst UK motorists, proposals from the Government seem to once again throw caution to the wind stating that widespread introduction of further congestion charges hotspots will appear over the next decade.

At least ten new pay as you drive areas are set for launch as the first new phase of toll roads with Manchester likley to be the first area to be rolled out. This tax on road use is seen as just another kick in the teeth for the average motorist who will undoubtably find themselves paying even more on their day to day travel expenses.

The target audience for toll costs are always quoted as being the heavy duty road users but the reality is we will all suffer the consequences of congestion charges and without a shadow of a doubt the use of such revenue systems will organically spread throughout the country onto smaller A and B roads.

The same principle occurred with the introduction of speeds cameras which were originally introduced to kerb accidents occurring in reknowned black spots however it soon became apparent their revenue making potential out weighed the issue of accident prevention. Well done Government for another well thought out strategy, when things get sticky just stuff more tax burden onto the back of the honest British public.
