No Penalty or Penalty Points
Added - 18/05/2007
One of the UKs largest personal lines insurance providers Swintons has made a brave and conscious announcement that penalty points wont have any detrimental effect on car insurance premiums they quote upon.
The penalisation of higher premiums because penalty points exist has always been an automatic process and one that has delivered a bone of contention with British motorists. Over recent years the possibility of drivers accumulating penalty points has risen due to the explosion in numbers of highway based speed cameras, in fact it currently stands that over sixty thousand of these contraptions exist on UK roads.
The revenue raised as a result of these speed cameras has soared and so too have the amount of penalty points being dished out to the thousands of motorists getting caught on camera. Referring to the monies raised it begs belief that despite the revenues raised the highways agencies still dont have the funding to adequately maintain the roads.
Swintons have made a very bold yet sensible statement that they appreciate, as do most of us people with common sense that penalty points, particularly those gained as a result of speed cameras do not necessarily mean the driver is a higher risk. Swintons have stated that they will look at each case on its individual merit, but with discretion we have outlined in this report. Maybe there is is hope yet that some of these big companies real do listen to us and they do use common sense when it comes to making judgements and decisions about the insurance risk they undertake.
Thanks Swintons for standing up a shouting that penalty points wont automatically mean penalties being issued to insurance premiums, millions of Britons are going to be chuffed at this announcement.
