BIBA - The British Insurance Brokers Association

This organisation is a leading UK general insurance body who represent a large number of UK insurance brokers and related professional intermediaries. To highlight the power of the BIBA, their members deal with over three quarters of the United Kingdoms industrial, commercial and general public insurance requirements.

As a regulatory body BIBA assist and advise its insurance members on a number trade issues including how to deal with its insurance consumers, and other insurance industry related training issues in a bid to establish market standards. As well as being an industry regulator BIBA also represent the general public, the customers who purchase insurance from over 350 different types on insurance cover.

It is important to BIBA that its members offer insurance consumers a high standard of service, in doing so they expect them to conform to standards and explain the following when dealing with their customers:

  • Ask the consumer about their insurance needs so they can find a suitable policy
  • Make the consumers choices clear by telling them the range of products they can offer
  • Explain any professional advice they offer to the consumer – honestly and clearly
  • Secure their best deal for the customer by using their expertise and buying power
  • Make sure the customer understands what is, and is not, covered by their policy
  • Clearly state the costs of the policy – including any fees associated to the purchase
  • Give clear professional information and documentation – as well as help with the associated paperwork explain their support in the event of the customer making a claim
  • Explain the right to complain if the consumer is dissatisfied with the policy purchased
  • Explain the right to cancel if the consumer changes their mind about the policy
