Expectations are high for motor insurance companies to offer discounts
In theory it sounds logical but in practice it might be a little more difficult. That's the scenario that currently surrounds the implication of new and improved theory and practical testing for new drivers.
Now one would think therefore that if both these measures were implemented there would be a good argument to suggest that new driver car insurance might be on the cards but it seems the motor insurance providers might not be that easy to convince.
The average premium for new drivers is a whopping £1300, now that's a healthy chunk of any ones money let alone a new driver and lets face it most are going to be the younger generation.
The reality of implicating all this change however might have the contrary effect because the cost of learning to drive in the first place might actually rise as a result of the changes and extra training that will need to be put in place. Reports this week also suggest that the car insurance companies are also not so keen to announce a drop in motor insurance premiums just on the back of these announcements.
It is one of those catch 22 scenarios again which could go either way. The schemes might deliver better drivers who therefore go on to earn themselves cheaper car insurance premiums or then again many more potential new drivers might not be able to afford the cost of learning to drive which might therefore increase the numbers of those prepared to drive unqualified, untaxed and uninsured.
Time will tell.
