Financial Services Authority report on the activity of the price comparison companies
The FSA has issued its report on their review of the insurance aggregators market. Price comparison websites have been the biggest and fastest developing market within the insurance industry of the past few years.
Two years ago the FSA announced that 'no immediate action' was required for the industry however with the massive growth of the insurance aggregators sector it was important to revisit the same with a more involved review. As part of the review and investigation into insurance aggregator activity, seventeen top price comparison companies were scrutinised by the FSA in order to ascertain whether price and other important factors were all being taken into account during the consumer process.
There have been concerns over the past few years that price was simply becoming the over-riding factor with some insurance aggregators and in doing so there was a cascade effect through the car insurance companies providers themselves to cut everything to the bone in order to deliver themselves at the top of the pile in the aggregators results.
The FSA have concluded that good and bad things have been occurring within the insurance aggregators model however ensuring fair treatment for the consumer takes priority.
Regulation and standards are likely to be way forward in order to ensure the end consumer not only gets good value for money but also adequate information about waht they are actually purchasing.
