Check the Cover on Car Insurance

17. 05. 2008 posted in: Car Insurance News 2008

Make sure you read the small print on your car insurance documents is the message

As with many important documents there is an element of small print and car insurance documents are no exception. The small print isn't specifically there to trip you up or catch you out, it is essentially there to protect the insurance underwriter and indeed the consumer.

For example in a recent survey conducted by online car insurance company Swiftcover.com they revealed that a startling 29 per cent of drivers believed they would be insured for driving someone else's vehicle. It is problems like this that can cause serious issues including big hits on the pocket when one finds out you are not infact insured.

What drivers should do is ask questions when they are buying their motor insurance, insurance operative should be qualified or have access to the answers to these questions.

This then brings about the problem of those who buy their car insurance online where no interaction takes place with the insurance broker or car insurance companies staff.

The major assumption from motorists is this driving other vehicles scenario, others include:

  • Finding out you are not insured when you the car is stolen and you have left the vehicle unsecured
  • As above because you left the keys in the car
  • You put the wrong fuel into the vehicle

The simple solution is check the small print on you car insurance documents or indeed ask the right questions when you actually take out your vehicle insurance. If in doubt call your insurance provider and check.
